When old film needs attention

Bubbling, peeling edges, discolouration or a change in your requirements may prompt removal. Tell us whether the film is on a vehicle or building and why you want it removed. If you are concerned about front-glazing legality, arrange a suitable light-transmission check rather than estimating compliance by appearance.

Removal pricing

The published Guardian Tints removal rate is £50/hour. Time depends on film age, adhesive, pane size and access. The existing guide gives two to three hours as an average for a four-door car, not a guaranteed duration. Ask how the likely scope and cost will be agreed before work begins, especially if several layers or brittle film are present.

Heated rear screens need care

Rear-screen heating lines and antenna elements can be vulnerable during removal, particularly where old film or adhesive is firmly bonded. Photograph the screen and disclose any existing faults before the job. Do not assume every pane can be restored without risk, or that an installer can reverse pre-existing damage. Discuss the condition and proposed method in advance.

Replacing the film

A replacement installation needs clean, suitable glass. Removal and adhesive cleaning should be included in the agreed scope rather than hidden within a headline tint price. Tell us the replacement result you want and the windows involved. Vehicle and building films have different requirements; the new specification should be checked for the actual glazing.

Prepare for the visit

Send photographs, your postcode and any details about previous installation or repairs. Clear the working area and agree parking and access. Avoid scraping heating elements or experimenting with harsh chemicals before an assessment. After removal, follow the installer’s advice for cleaning and report any concerns promptly.
